DESIGN DIRECTION / DIGITAL DESIGN / CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

For Art Basel Miami Beach 2022, FARFETCH collaborated with Random Studio to create an immersive lounge installation.

Reflecting FARFETCH's commitment to self-expression through fashion, the experience celebrates individual style choices and the unparalleled range offered by the platform. This dynamic environment responds to each guest, highlighting their unique personal style and reflecting something new back, echoing what FARFETCH does online.

The primary objective of the partnership with Art Basel Miami was to acquire 600 new FARFETCH Private Client customers. This target was surpassed by 120% resulting in a total of 1320 new Private Clients. I lead the design across all Private Client marketing, which can be explored in the case study here.

DEVELOPMENT

Central to the installation were LED panels equipped with innovative image recognition technology. As guests interacted with the space, a camera captured the colours of their outfits, using this input to generate unique visual collages.

The collages are composed in a grid of colour-matched crops, pulling from the extensive FARFETCH image database. Eventually, the collages fade into an abstract haze before diffusing across the rest of the screens.

The concept and design direction draws inspiration from artistic influences such as David Hockney and his photographic joiners, James Turrell’s installations that explore light, colour and space, and Cubism where the subjects are analysed, broken up, and reassembled in abstract forms.

The design of the lounge was inspired by the FARFETCH Fuse logo curvature, further translating the brand's digital identity in a tangible space.

We collaborated with Random Studio, who brought the vision to life through creative concept research and development, UX/CX design, prototyping, software development, spatial design and installation engineering.
